I thought it would be useful for you to hear the effect of multiband compression + eq against the out of the box sound.
I listened to a lot of solo violin works, this one (link) is an example for a very good recording. The high fidelity detail in the 10k+ range you can hear in this wonderful recording is barely noticeable in all audio modeling products (except the current brass). With compression and eq I tried to bring out some of those details, which works good enough in most cases. Unfortunately, AM instruments do not allow a full scale of adjustments from niente to loud on the noise producing sounds like breath, keyclicks and bow noise for example, so this procedure can lead to some unwanted artifacts you'll need to tackle with surgical mixing.
