How to convert a GM or Megavoice track to play with Swam instruments?

Good Morning, it’s posible to convert a General midi track or a Yamaha arranger Megavoice track to playback correctly with SWAM Saxophones? Thank you in advance for the help

Hi @rbvgenos it depends on what you mean with "convert". Since SWAM are expressive instruments, if the GM track does not have any expression information, the only way to make the sax playing is to provide your own expression to the track.

So you need to import the track into a sequencer and record or edit an expression curve to give the right expressivity to the sax.

Best!

As Swam is all about articulation, I doubt that a track done for GM will provide any usable results with a SWAM instrument.

Thank you for the answers! smile How about megavoice tracks? On megavoices there are several different sounds or articulations, each of which are triggered by a specific range of velocities. However as well as the sound type being selected by the note velocity, it also sets the volume and unlike a gm sound or other sound, the volumes are 'scaled' over the range of velocities that select the specific sound or articulation. Is there a way to playback correctly this kind of tracks with swam instruments?

SWAM instruments are expressive instruments, not a collection of velocity-triggered samples.

Velocity is a static information, sent together with Note-on event. It is suitable to just select the right attack of the note, not its expressive evolution in time.
Unfortunately, in the last decades, 99% of sample libraries and hardware synths have forced us to associate "velocity" to "dynamic", which - in our opinion - is totally wrong.

On SWAM instruments: velocity controls the attack strength for detached notes (staccato) and portamento time for connected notes (legato); expression controls the evolution of dynamics in time.
