SWAM Soprano Sax playing jazz standard: Misty

I continue to explore using the SWAM saxophones as instruments for real-time improvisational playing. There are no edits to the MIDI data in the example here. Playing "Misty", a ballad, is a good workout for the TEControl breath controller.

Really nice !
Playing the sound with the BBC and the Guitar controller results in a great feeling.
I play Swam Flute with TEC BBC and Keyboard which seems to result in a very different approach to the feeling of a wind instrument.
I also have a Seaboard Rise 49 (still practicing hard to manage the 5D action), which has a similar light touch as the guitar controller. I use it rather successfully with solo strings, but I did not combine it with the TEC BBC nor a Swam woodwind yet. Seems I should try that ... smile

We also did "Misty", but not with a Swam instrument. As we do have a real sax player and a singer, I only play the Piano in that piece. smile -> https://soundcloud.com/user-213300358/misty?in=user-213300358/sets/boa-sorte

Hi Michael,

I think one of the advantages of the You Rock Guitar (as I'm using it) is that all of the dynamics are coming from the breath controller—all of the notes have the same velocity. Also, having both the pitch bend and modulation controls under my right hand at the same time gives a more nuanced control of the pitch.

I enjoyed your playing on your group's "Misty".

I use head nodding for pitch. Looks a little bit funny, but works rather nicely. I don't use it for vibrato, here the keyboards aftertouch is very welcome. But using the Seaboard (right now only for stings) provides an optimum control by finger wiggling vibrato.
I in fact do like that the keyboard does provide velocity. The Swam engine can use that for controlling the portamento time.

"Misty" is a rather old recording. Unfortunately I don't have a decent recording with a SWAM instrument. But in the same playlist ( http://www.bschnell.de/b ) there is "Stolen Moments" and "My Funny Valentine", with extensive use of the TEC BBC with the Sample Modeling trumpet.
